Since opening its doors in 2013, La Serre Bistro & Boulangerie has become a city hot spot, known as one of the best French restaurants in Dubai. It came as no surprise when it was nominated for the 2015 What’s on Dubai Awards under the category ‘Restaurants over Dhs400’.
In the shadow of the Burj Khalifi, this stylish restaurant is nestled behind a two-storey glass façade, part of the Vida Downtown Hotel. Renowned chef, Izu Ani takes the reins with an exciting concept where traditional Parisian street food meets contemporary fine dining. This tenacious chef has worked at some of the finest restaurants in the world, including L’Auberge de l’ill – the second oldest three-Michelin-star restaurant in the world. Using this wealth of experience, Ani has created a memorable dining experience which has been a big hit from day one.
It feels like an authentic French restaurant, complete with its own boulangerie on the ground floor, where visitors can enjoy some of the finest bread and pastries in the city. From its shaded terrace you can enjoy a relaxed meal with gourmet sandwiches and fresh seafood alongside an impressive selection of mocktails. For a true taste of the Mediterranean, it’s worth sampling their focaccia with mozzarella, pesto, tomato and rocket. This simplistic, light meal puts the emphasis on quality produce which appears to be the common theme at La Serre.
For an unforgettable evening, the Bistro restaurant on the first floor offers gourmet dining in a relaxed atmosphere. As you climb an opulent staircase, it’s the finer details that will impress. White furnishings remain understated whilst cream banisters and modern artwork give the finishing touches. A marble cocktail bar adds to the elegance and gives that final, piece de resistance.
Be sure to book early, this restaurant can get very busy throughout the week. Large groups can enjoy a private experience in the Chef’s Table. This stunning room sits adjacent to the kitchen allowing guests to watch as the culinary magic unfolds.
Another feature which draws the eyes of many visitors, is the show kitchen which displays fresh and organic ingredients. This celebrates the restaurant’s use of exclusive produce from around the world. Organic ingredients in Dubai have long been a favorite for many high profile restaurants but La Serre is leading the way.
With its menu covering a diverse range of Mediterranean influences, you can expect more than frogs legs and onion soup. From the seared langoustine with truffle butter to the whole roast chicken with fois gras, it’s a feast for the senses. As you would expect, dessert is equally impressive – an exciting menu for those with a sweet tooth. The chocolate and caramel tart with salted espresso ice cream is a crowd pleaser, and perfect for the devoted chocoholic.
If you’re looking for an exceptional meal with outstanding service, it’s worth paying a visit to Izu and his dedicated team. To show your support, you can also place your votes online for their What’s On Dubai nomination.
