The Dubai Foundation for Women & Children (DFWAC) will be presenting the Artworks of their residents for the first time in the UAE at Dubai International Art Centre from 6th till 16th of September
¬†The Dubai International Art Centre hosts, ‚ÄúSeasons of Change‚ÄĚ an empowering Art Exhibition by the residents of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children‚Äôs Shelter. DFWAC is the first licensed non-profit shelter in the UAE for women and children victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and human trafficking. There will be close to 30 Artworks on display and sale at the Art Exhibition; all funds raised at the show will go to the Foundation to further empower and support the women & children who reside at DFWAC. The show‚Äôs guest of honour is the celebrated local Artist Ms. Fatma Lootah ‚Äď the show opens to public from 6th till the 16th of September at Gallery 76.
This event is an initiative of a passionate change maker ‚Äď Fiona Petrocelli; Fiona‚Äôs innate desire to help people has prompted her to be involved in several charities, including working with senior citizens in the UK, ‚ÄúStreet Children‚ÄĚ in Kuala Lumpur & Special needs children in Dubai. Fiona also serves as a volunteer board member at the Dubai International Art Centre since 2014 where she has actively formed collaborations between the Art Centre and local charities. Fiona Petrocelli explains what attracted her to work with DFWAC, ¬†‚ÄúWith all the glitz and glamour that seems to always be promoted about Dubai, it is organizations like the foundation that are weaving the moral fabric of this diverse expatriate and growing community and tackling what are the taboo issues that exist not only here but all over the world‚ÄĚ
The Dubai International Art Centre has been an active supporter of the Arts in the community and with their support and active involvement from the art teachers of the centre; Fiona was able to host art workshops with the residents of DFWAC since March 2016 and these sessions resulted in the production of some of the most inspiring and positive paintings. The Foundation played a key role by offering unwavering support to the Art workshops and the exhibition.
Ghaya Al Habtoor ‚Äď Marketing Executive at DFWAC explains, ‚ÄúThe Artists are women who are survivors of domestic violence, child abuse & human trafficking. This Art Exhibition is a great way to boost the confidence of the women behind the paintings; the funds will help support women empowerment programs and support women in need. This is also a great exposure for the foundation, its services & facilities. We would like the community to know more about the foundation & its services in helping abused women & children in order to have a society free of violence. ‚Äú
Asma Al Suwaidi ‚Äď Senior Activities Coordinator at DFWAC explains, ‚ÄúThe Art workshops really helped the clients to release stress, relax, express themselves, forget about their personal problems and focus on their creativity. When they were painting, they were in another happy world. I was very impressed to see them relaxed.‚ÄĚ
Visitors of this exhibition can expect to see the most vibrant and lively artworks; Inspired by the Foundation‚Äôs landscaped gardens and butterfly logo, the theme of the exhibition ‚ÄėSeasons of change‚Äô reflect the Artists own strength & resilience.
