Sharjah is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The emirate is the second ancient emirate of the country as it was established from the United Kingdom in the year 1727. It is the third largest in terms of land area and the third most populous city of the UAE. It is a part of the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area. The emirate of Sharjah is located along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula. The population of the emirate is more than 1,600,000 and the total land area is almost 235.5 square km.
